In one of the biggest upsets for many years, the 3 bowls pair of Kathleen Doyle and Christine Hamilton were victorious ( 17 – 14 ) against the much fancied and hugely experienced duo of John Brophy and Robert Smith.
Kathleen and Christine have only taken up bowls this year and with the greatest of respect to them, I quote one of our members who said
” This is like Stenhousemuir beating France”!
John and Robert were unavailable for comment.

As per previous communication, the clubhouse and bar will reopen from Saturday 5th June. An updated bar/duty director rota is now available on the club website.

From Saturday 5th June the online rink booking system is no longer required and play is not restricted to the 3 sessions as per the booking system. All members will be required to sign in/out at the front door and there will be a column on the sign-in sheet to record the rink you are playing on. If you have already arranged to play a game then this can be played on any rink.

The Ladies Wappenschaw will be played on a Thursday afternoon, 2pm start.

The Seniors Wappenschaw will be played on a Wednesday afternoon, 2pm start.

The Singles League and Nominated 3-Bowl Pairs League are both underway. The groups are on the competitions board and can also be viewed on the Scottish Bowls website at Further competitions will follow once organised by the Match Committee.

The opening of the clubhouse and bar helps us to get back to some normality. Indoors – a maximum of 6 people from 3 households is allowed per table. Outdoors – a maximum of 8 peole from 8 households is permitted per table. Please follow the Covid rules which are displayed within the clubhouse building. Tables should be wiped down after use and masks to be worn when indoors and not seated.

I look forward to seeing you all in the club and on the green.

Monday 2nd to Saturday 7th August 2021
Hi folks, entry form link below for this year’s tournament. Entries will also be accepted by email, and there is the option of paying by online bank transfer.

Form can be downloaded from this link:
This would usually be up on the noticeboard but since the clubhouse isn’t fully open I thought I’d share it in here as I know some of our members have taken part in the past.

23rd May 2021

Dear members,
The bar opened yesterday for the afternoon into early evening. There was a good turn out of members considering short notice, and thanks to both Robert Warrender volunteering with Alan Ross. The bar takings were a help to club funds.

Given indoors level 3 rule is for attendees to be out by 8pm, its probably not worth opening the bar in the evening at the moment, with possible exception of Fridays. It seems sensible we just open afternoons weekdays staffed by the seniors, and weekends afternoon to early evening – all of this weather dependent.

This means that each Thursday/Friday we will keep an eye on the forecast, and at relative short notice we will communicate if bar opening that weekend and when, provided a bar volunteer and DD is available.

Hopefully we don’t stay on level 3 too long, and can go to full bar on the rota when we are level 2.
Please keep an eye out for communications on WhatsApp, Facebook and Website, and please pass on to other members you know that might not access these sources of info.

David McCloy
Honorary Secretary
