The 1990’s heralded the regular extension of permitted bar hours and it was now permissible to stay open until 11pm – midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Gents locker room was refurbished and new lockers were fitted in 1994. Five new shelters along with a new patio area were completed in 1995
We joined the ‘Hillpark League’ in 1998 and won the ‘Govan League’ for the second time.
The age of technology came to the Club in 1999 when we purchased our first computer.
The millennium of course was also the year when our Ladies Section celebrated their 75th anniversary and it is appropriate to mention the debt of gratitude which we owe to all the ladies in this Club over the past 100 years.
Since the formation of the Club in 1914 the ladies have been second to none in their fundraising and catering activities but more importantly they can be immensely proud of their bowling achievements, particularly the outstanding number of representatives they have had at international level.
Another major refurbishment of the concert hall took place in 2000 when a pitched roof was erected to replace our leaking flat roof which had been haemorrhaging money for years.
There were great celebrations when we won the ‘Ayrshire’ in 2007 for only the second time in our history.
2010 saw us gaining promotion into the ‘Glasgow Bowling Association Premier Division’ and it was quite an achievement to be crowned champions of that division in the following year.
There was further cause for celebration in 2012 when after a gap of 67 years we won the Glasgow Cup for the second time.
Further major refurbishment of the Club was carried out between 2007 and 2012 which included the removal of pillars in the small lounge and relocation of the board room and ladies toilets. The kitchen and passageways were also upgraded.
Another piece of history was made at the A.G.M. of 2013 when a decision was reached to permit ladies to become full members of the Club.
2013 saw further major alterations to the Club with part of the wall which separated the two lounges being taken down to create a more open arena for our members during social evenings and other events. The furnishings and décor were also upgraded.
The Club owes an enormous debt of gratitude to all its members, office bearers and committee over the past 100 years.
It is thanks to their dedication and vision that we have a thriving Club of which we can be justifiably proud.
They are too numerous to mention but we must give special thanks and congratulations to all the players over the years from both the Gents and Ladies sections who have enriched our Club with their bowling achievements and the honours which they have brought to Cardonald.
As everyone is aware, a great many bowling Clubs are suffering from dwindling memberships and even closure.
Changes in the fabric of society and peoples’ pastimes will make it an increasingly difficult task to ensure the survival of our Club for another 100 years.
We are confident that our future members will do their utmost to maintain the proud traditions of their predecessors and will have continued success and enjoyment in the years ahead.
